ViromeViral Metagenomic Sequencing

Diversigen offers end-to-end viral metagenomic sequencing capable of capturing DNA and RNA viruses simultaneously in simple or complex samples. This approach, which includes total nucleic acid extraction, cDNA generation, sequencing, and informatics, detects eukaryotic viruses and bacteriophage (prokaryotic viruses), including human health-relevant viruses.

Our novel viral classification pipeline performs searches in both the DNA and protein space to provide increased sensitivity and specificity. Our viral analysis pipeline has been used to successfully detect SARS-CoV-2, Orthomyxoviruses (including influenza), Hepacivirus, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Enterovirus, among others.

Your trusted partner during the COVID-19 pandemic

At Diversigen we have years of experience processing, sequencing and analysing samples with our proprietary viral metagenomic pipeline. In response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we have updated our databases to ensure our viral classification pipeline will return information about SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Our classification pipeline can not only detect SARS-CoV-2 in confirmed positive samples, it can also differentiate between coronavirus species. In addition, the pipeline can be used in combination with deep RNA sequencing to recover the SARS-CoV-2 genome at a depth and coverage that allows for genome assembly, which is crucial for strain and/or mutation rate tracking. While the complete pipeline encompasses total nucleic acid extraction, cDNA generation, sequencing and informatics, it is designed to accept input at any point in the workflow (from collected samples all the way to sequencing data). In addition to nasal nasopharyngeal samples, there are reports that SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in samples that are of interest to microbiome researchers, including saliva and feces.

Our hope is that we can help researchers understand how SARS-CoV-2 may be impacting their clinical trials or human research studies and support screening of donor-derived microbiome products. In addition, we hope to help the research community contribute to the global efforts to track this viral outbreak.
