Where we came from

Diversigen

Diversigen is a microbiome industry pioneer. The company was founded in 2013 by Dr. Joseph Petrosino, director of the Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research at the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where Diversigen is a BCM portfolio company.

As the first company to establish microbiome protocols in accordance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation and Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) guidelines, Diversigen has a strong track record of supporting microbiome-focused clinical trials for big pharma customers, as well as thought-leading microbiome-focused biotech companies.

In November 2019, Diversigen became a wholly-owned subsidiary of OraSure, Inc., headquartered in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

CoreBiome

CoreBiome was a microbiome sequencing and analysis provider run by microbiome scientists. Founders, Dan Knights (CEO), Daryl Gohl (CSO), and Kenny Beckman (COO), are experts in the fields of microbiome science and high-throughput genomics.

CoreBiome was built on intellectual property licensed from the founders’ labs in Computer Science, the BioTechnology Institute, and the Genomics Center at the University of Minnesota.

CoreBiome is a licensee of University of Minnesota (UMN) intellectual property; and was originally incorporated in July of 2016, as Micrometer, Inc. CoreBiome received seed funding from angel investors and the UMN’s investment fund (Discovery Capital).

In January 2019, CoreBiome became a wholly-owned subsidiary of OraSure, Inc., headquartered in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
